#CPC Wednesday Message 7-7-21

Wednesday Greetings,

During the 10:45 a.m. service last Sunday, I had an interesting realization... revelation...

We were singing, "Let There Be Peace on Earth" and sang the line.... "with every step I take."   Suddenly I realized how unable  I am to walk, to take steps.  It was one of those moments when I realized how much of our language and life favors those who are fully able-bodied.

It isn't that the song was written to be hurtful, but in some ways it is to those who can't walk.  It was to me in that moment.

We take so much of life for granted, until something we took for granted is lost to us.

I pray that it makes me more aware of ways to work to be more inclusive of all people.  It's not about being politically correct, it's about honoring all God's children, no matter their abilities or disabilities, and helping all people know they are fully a part of God's family.

I doubt I am going to change the words of the song, but I am going to be more aware of the words I use to describe the journey of faith.   Some of us don't take steps, we wheel, roll, and stumble.

Words are very powerful.   How will you become more aware of your words this day?  And how will you use your words to welcome everyone into the journey of faith?

Peace in our journeys,
Pastor Steve Melde
