Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war.

We are marching in the Light the of God.


These two hymns are really marvelous.  The tunes pervade my mind from childhood.

And yet, I'm not so favorable toward the marching...  

I know the battle against sin and evil is a difficult one, ongoing.  But I also know that God wins that battle, no matter what!

I suppose what I don't like about the marching image is all of us lined up like soldiers, copying each other's move, moving in sync.

I really do think God loves the variety of us, the diversity of who and how we all are.   And I think each of us has different battles to face, and sometimes have to face those battles in completely different ways.

But the Good News of God in Jesus the Christ reminds me that no matter what, God wins the battle..... for us.   

How ever it is you are moving into March, I pray you enter this month knowing the battle is already won, for you!
