Wednesday Message 9-30-20
Wednesday Greetings,
What do you sound like?
Yesterday I was driving into the church. It was about 7 a.m. so the traffic wasn't particularly heavy. My windows were down with the cooler temps. I turned off my radio; it was just noise. And I listened to the sounds around me. As I approached the intersection at Tanque Verde and Sabino Canyon, I came to the red light. One car was thumping with the sounds of rap, and I heard words that would make a sailor blush. One car was yelling at someone on the phone (using the radio speakers). One car was honking because the car in front of it wasn't turning fast enough. One car was yelling because the car in front of it seemed to be moving into its lane.
I'm grumpy in the morning, too. I understand.
I asked God, "Where are you in all this grumpiness?"
"I'm here," I felt God might have said. It was comforting to know that God was with me even in the grumpiness. It actually eased mine just to remember that God has promised to be with me no matter what, no matter where. And my grumpiness eased, just a bit.
We all drove on.
And I thought, "What did I sound like at that intersection?" What do I sound like at anytime? What noise do I make in this world that will let the world know that God is with us, all the time, everywhere?
We'll see. Maybe God will give me another chance at a red light the morning.
