Message 7-29-2020
Wednesday Greetings,
I have some fear. I know I'm not supposed to; my faith teaches me not to be afraid. And I'm not overly, but I do have some fear.
"One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again." Abraham Maslo
As we make plans to open our doors for people to gather inside our worship spaces together again, I fear it's all about just getting back to normal, getting back to the way things were before the COVID-19 changed every aspect of our lives. ( no date has been set, yet).
I have some fear around that because, as I've said before, there's no going back to the way things were exactly, nor should we. We need to take advantage of the challenge this pandemic has given us and awake to a new way of being church.
The old way was certainly good for many of us, but not all. Can we just admit that overall the church universal was on a decline in terms of people's connection to it? Can we admit there was more space in the worship rooms than previous years? I can admit.. that has brought me fear. Fear that the church has seemed irrelevant to people. And it's not for me. It's the place, the main place in my life, where I am able to grow my relationship with God with Jesus as my Savior. It's the place that teaches me how to grow in that relationship, how to live out that relationship, how to help others have that relationship. And I think that's realllllllly important.
So, on the way back, join me in prayer and thought and action as we choose growth, again and again, despite the fear, moving past the fear... into a new era of church, of faith, of life.
Choose growth with me, and with this church and congregation.
Help me, help your leadership teams, help us together dream anew of what the church can be. Throw out the box, don't just think outside of it.
What is the Holy Spirit revealing to you?
I'm not afraid of that. I'm ready for growth.... and willing to go through the growing pains....
Join me?
Let me know what the Holy Spirit is revealing to you.
